Grand Hotel Union was built in 1905 and, even then, was considered one of the finest and most modern hotels in South East Europe. In addition to central heating, running water, lifts and refrigeration appliances, which were then a rarity, the hotel complex is complemented by Congress Concert Hall.
Union Hall has been for decades the centre of cultural and artistic life of Ljubljana. Congresses and balls, concerts and rallies took place in it. By rearranging it into a cinema in 1934 it lost its original purpose, and Ljubljana with it a cultural arts centre.
In 2002, the Union Hall was renovated according to the original plans of the Croatian architect Vancaš and is one of the most beautiful halls in this part of Europe. The interior is maintained in spite of its magnificence art nouveau architecture, but the top technical equipment and modern details introduce a touch of the future.
